Visible artist, graffiti scholar, and educator Will Kasso Condry of Brandon has been selected as the very first recipient of The Vermont Prize, a new endeavor aimed at celebrating and supporting the most effective visual artwork staying built in Vermont nowadays.
A collaborative initiative of the Brattleboro Museum & Artwork Centre (BMAC), Burlington City Arts (BCA), The Recent of Stowe and the Hall Artwork Foundation in Reading through, The Vermont Prize is juried by one representative from just about every of the four partner businesses and a person special guest juror.

“I use my artwork to weave the wealthy and layered tales of the African diaspora as an Afrofuturistic artist and educator,” Condry wrote in an artist statement. “Be it fantastical or rooted in our recent truth, my function demonstrates the multitude of dimensions and experiences Black folks navigate. I want the observer to be transported inside a universe filled with infinite options to have an understanding of that the Black creativeness is our critical to liberation, and that Black pleasure is the root that binds it all.”
Born and raised in Trenton, New Jersey, Condry researched wonderful art and illustration at The Faculty of New Jersey as a to start with-technology college or university student. He furthered his education with graffiti artist Daniel “POSE 2” Hopkins and muralist Dave McShane of Mural Arts Philadelphia. For about 20 yrs, he has labored with younger folks via a wide variety of community companies, like the Boys & Ladies Club and SAGE Coalition. He has served as artist-in-residence at Princeton University and Middlebury School. With Jennifer Herrera Condry and Alexa Herrera Condry, he founded Juniper Artistic Arts, a Vermont-based mostly Black and Dominican family members collective that “uses visual art to uplift the voices of folks on the margins.” His perform has been revealed in solo and team exhibitions, and his murals have been commissioned by community, non-public, and corporate clients in New Jersey, California, and Vermont.
