Hundreds of young dancers gathered in Pink Deer this past weekend for a competitiveness that was very first hosted additional than 40 yrs ago.
The fourth of five events all through this year’s Danceworks Central Alberta Dance Festivals took area at Westerner Park’s Parkland Pavilion from Friday to Sunday.
The party featured dancers from throughout the province doing within just a amount of variance disciplines, including tap, jazz, ballet, place and musical theatre.
“I want to market and inspire dance in Purple Deer and the encompassing place,” reported Rhonda Heald, occasion co-ordinator.

Heald, 63, has been dancing because she was 6 several years previous.
“Forty-three many years back, when I was 20, I started off (placing on) this pageant. Back then it was in Lacombe through the Kiwanis Pageant, but it grew so rapid we had to phase out on our very own.”
Heald pointed out the Danceworks Central Alberta Competition is the province’s 2nd-longest managing dance competition, upcoming to the Alberta Dance Festival.
“It’s been genuinely fulfilling around the many years. We’ve had dancers who would go to our events each individual calendar year, from when they have been tiny up right until they graduate,” she explained.
“Now some are dancing skillfully or have long gone on to be academics. There are a lot of them in Ontario, doing at functions like the Stratford Festival. It’s great to see that expertise continuing on.”
Heald claimed this year’s pageant functions have absent all-out in phrases of presentation. Through this previous weekend’s function, dancers performed on a huge stage with lighting ordinated to their costumes.
This year’s dance competition is specially fulfilling since the COVID-19 pandemic was difficult for these youthful dancers, she extra.

Danceworks Central Alberta Dance Festivals will have its remaining party this future weekend at the Crimson Deer Memorial Centre.
