LaSalle Folk Pageant highlights cultures as a result of dance

The universal language of dance was on entire show in the course of the inaugural Folk Competition held Saturday at the Saint Nicholas Macedonian Centre in LaSalle, wherever a substantial crowd collected to witness a celebration of the diversity and loaded cultural landscape of Windsor and Essex County.

Dancers symbolizing cultures from about the environment —from African tribal dances to Irish action dance, Indian classical rhythms to Serbian kolo — performed in colourful, intricate costumes.

“We’re quite happy,” explained St. Nicholas banquet centre administrative council president Vera Najdovska. “This is the initial (folk pageant) and it is heading extremely well.”

Men and women of all ages milled about Saturday afternoon, having fun with regular Macedonian cuisine, although admiring the skillful dancers.

The Serenada Macedonian singing team also carried out.

Najdovska reported the People Pageant was arranged by users of Saint Nicholas’s Gerdan Macedonian Folklore Ensemble.

Shaped only last summer time, the 14 grownup dancers and 10 little ones now complete domestically and vacation to conventions and festivals.

The Folk Pageant was also a way to increase revenue for their costumes and vacation bills.

“They assumed it was a way to rejoice range,’ Najdovska stated. “It’s beautiful when you have all the nations alongside one another.

“We did not know how quite a few (people today would show up at). We took a chance and it paid off.

“Actually, it turned out even superior than we expected.”
