Unfortunately, the world is not a very peaceful or safe place for many individuals. From conflict to abuse to exploitation, there is so much cruelty inflicted on both humans and animals. While this can get disheartening and difficult to hear about, petitions are a great way to use your voice for good. Just by signing one, you are a part of helping those who are not treated fairly. You can even share them with your friends and acquaintances to increase your impact.

Through petitions, we can reach those in power and demand justice for others. They are valuable tools for making positive changes in the world. If you are looking for a way to help animals and humans, here are 10 petitions you should sign this week, including Demand Prevention Against Climate Change, Tell Amazon to Stop Exploiting Animals For Entertainment, and Save the Sunflower Sea Star From Extinction!

We want to thank you for being the change you wish to see in the world and giving a voice to the voiceless.

1. Demand Prevention Against Climate Change Before Time Runs Out

The latest UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report is a harsh reality that we all must face. In order to to save the planet for future generations, true climate action needs to be taken, and fast. This is already hurting wildlife and marine life as they die off in record numbers from habitat devastation, migrational changes, and food depletion. Human health is also at stake, with rapid increases in wild and destructive weather events, as well as droughts, famine, and even pandemic-level illnesses. The U.S. must set an example for other global leaders by investing in clean energy, and promoting sustainability in every part of our economy, before time runs out. Please sign this petition now to tell the Biden Administration: save our planet and commit to climate leadership!

2. Protect Other Animals From This Serial Animal Abuser

Back in January 2023, workers arrived to perform landscaping work on a property in Fayette County, Tennessee. What they noticed horrified them: bones and decaying bodies of dead dogs lying around the home. Even worse, the man who lived there was previously an animal control officer. Authorities discovered several dogs still living at the property, as well as the remains of dozens of dogs who had died from starvation and severe malnutrition. Even to this day, officials aren’t sure exactly how many dogs perished on the premises. The man in question has since been arrested. Authorities have charged him with 10 counts of animal cruelty. But the most important step is for officials to ban this man from ever owning, living with, or working with animals again! Please sign the petition to protect other animals from this serial animal abuser!

3. Revoke Support For Bill That Would Make Abortion Punishable by Death

South Carolina Republican lawmakers recently introduced a bill that would make abortion punishable by death. It’s no surprise that the bill is wildly unpopular and has generated severe backlash. Since it was introduced, nine of the bill’s 24 co-sponsors have pulled their support. This draconian bill literally considers abortion an act of homicide. Such an extreme and dangerous measure taken by Republicans should not be considered the norm. We must urge all other co-sponsors to pull their support of the bill! Please sign this petition to urge all co-sponsors of the draconian bill to revoke their support of this dangerous and unprecedented bill that would make abortion punishable by death.

4. Recommend Colon Cancer Screenings as Early as 35-Years-Old

Source: TODAY/Youtube

Deadly colon cancer is on the rise among younger adults in the United States, and the numbers are scary. One in five new cases of colorectal cancer in the U.S. occurs in people under the age of 55, which is twice the rate of diagnoses for that age group just three decades ago. Since younger adults aren’t eligible for these screenings, it is easier for them to miss colon cancer at an early stage, after which it becomes far more deadly. The good news is, we can stop this alarming trend, and prevent colon cancer in younger Americans, too with the support of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force. Please sign this petition to tell the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force: recommend screenings for folks starting at 35 years old!

5. Demand a Lifetime Animal Ownership Ban For a Woman Charged with 92 Counts of Animal Cruelty

When Randolph County deputies arrived on the scene after an animal cruelty complaint, they literally had to call hazmat teams to use respirators when entering the two homes. Both houses had urine and feces piled up a foot high, and were filled with dozens of suffering cats and dogs. The homes had no electricity, with all the windows and doors closed. Between the two houses, 41 dead cats were found, along with 40 living cats and 11 dogs. The animals were squeezed into such horrific and tight conditions that officers couldn’t even keep track of all of the cats and dogs when they entered. The perpetrator of this abuse and neglect should not ever be allowed to own animals again. Please sign this petition to demand Randolph County Prosecutors suggest a lifetime animal ownership ban for the woman responsible!

6. Tell Amazon to Stop Using, Exploiting, and Killing Animals For Entertainment

A horse has tragically died on the set of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, causing people to question why one of the richest companies in the world is still using and exploiting horses for human entertainment. The show, produced by Amazon for distribution via Prime Video, was using over 30 horses that day on set. The horses were being prepared for a battle scene when one devastatingly collapsed. An independent autopsy confirmed that the horse died of cardiac arrest. And while Amazon is making excuses, emphasizing that the horse died before it was in costume, we know that exploiting and working animals for hours upon hours can have devastating impacts on their health. In fact, the horse in question was being exercised in preparation for the battle scene. Please sign this petition now to tell Amazon to stop using, exploiting, and killing animals for entertainment!

7. Save the Sunflower Sea Star From Extinction!

Sunflower sea stars – one of the largest species of sea stars in the world – are on the brink of extinction. The beautiful creatures have experienced plummeting populations for the last several years. Terrifying reports show that the population has shrunk by 90% in less than a decade. Researchers speculate that a scary disease, Sea Star Wasting Syndrome is likely exacerbated by fast changes in water temperature. Human-induced climate change has decimated sea star populations, and it is our job to act before it is too late. Please sign this petition now to tell NOAA Fisheries to finalize this proposal and protect the sunflower sea star under the Endangered Species Act!

8. Help Pass This New Mexico Bill That Would Prevent Discrimination Against Disabled People

Source: KRQE/Youtube

Glory Sellers is a sweet child who has Down Syndrome and heart-related issues. In the future, she may need a heart transplant, and potentially a kidney transplant, too. But, since Glory has Down Syndrome, she could be discriminated against by hospitals, physicians, insurance companies, and procurement organizations, keeping her from life-saving medical care and transplants because of her disability. Disabled people across the country have fought hard for decades to ensure they are treated with the same respect and dignity as able-bodied Americans. Senate Bill 158, aptly named “Glory’s Law,” would guarantee disabled people have equal and fair access to organ transplants in New Mexico! Please sign this petition now to tell the New Mexico legislature to pass Glory’s Law! Protect disabled Americans now!

9. Demand Counseling and a Lifetime Ban For This Animal Abuser Who Gave a Dog Third-Degree Burns

A Pennsylvania man recently went through every dog owner’s nightmare — he came home to his 10-month-old puppy, Spunky, on the brink of death. Sweet Spunky had been tortured by the man’s girlfriend with a blowtorch, cigarettes, and blunt force. Spunky’s body was covered in second and third degree burns. She had cigarette burns inside her ears, mouth, and on her tongue. Spunky’s owner also said that her genitalia had been blowtorched inside and out, and one of her teeth had fallen out from blunt force trauma. The fact that Spunky survived this attack is a true miracle. Thankfully, Spunky will live a long and happy life with her owner. But we must ensure this never happens again. Please sign this petition now to demand counseling and a lifetime ban on animal ownership for this woman!

10. Revoke Farrier’s License From Man who Brutally Beat a Horse With a Hammer

A professional horse farrier in the UK was sentenced to just 12 weeks in prison and a mere 10-year ban on owning animals after video footage showed him brutally beating a horse with a hammer. The horrific footage depicts a terrified horse restrained, tied to a rope, and incapable of fleeing this man’s violent beatings. His attack on this poor animal lasted almost seven minutes. ny animal abuse is tragic, but in this case, the abuse was coming from a professional whom both horses and horse owners trust. A 10-year animal ban is simply not enough for a man who attacks an animal with a weapon, and “losing his temper” is no excuse. Please sign this petition now to tell the UK Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to review this case and ask that authorities to sentence this person to a lifetime ban on animal ownership and revoke his farrier license!
