Lorenzo Poli, the Sony Globe Photography Awards 2022 winner of the Landscape group, discusses the determination driving his environmentalism-impressed “Life on Earth” collection.
Photographer With Passion for Environmental Regeneration
Poli is an Italian photographer and architect whose career has been intensely impressed by his love for mother nature. As a final result, he has visited quite a few untamed environments around the world. His “Lifestyle on Earth” photographic series gained him prime honors in the Professional Landscape group of the recently concluded Sony Planet Images Awards 2022.
In the course of the pandemic, Poli had the prospect to are living remotely in the wilderness of the Scottish Highlands in which he worked on applying sustainability strategies for shoppers like Apple. Throughout this time, he discovered himself in awe of the untamed British wilderness — so significantly so that he remaining his architectural task in pursuit of photography.
His qualifications in environmental sustainability continued into his pictures, specifically in his “Life on Earth” series. Poli tells PetaPixel that this entire body of do the job is about “the enormous preciousness of everyday living, about the recognition, and the visible gratitude” to Earth.
“This is what I search for to photograph. Images is a type of a transcendental meditative knowledge for me and hopefully, this can be perceived as a result of my visuals.”
Seeking at influential photographers like Edward Burtynsky, who explained the act of taking a photograph in terms of “the contemplated moment,” and Henri-Cartier Bresson, recognized for his notion of “the decisive instant,” Poli relates his do the job to what he would describe as a “revelatory moment.”
Each individual Photograph Tells a Story
Every photograph in the collection has a tale guiding it. For example, even though kayaking close to the island of Rona, in the Inner Audio, Scotland, Poli camped right away on the summit of the Mullach an Rathain, a mountain in the Torridon Hills.
“The audio of the approaching sunrise woke me up,” he remembers. “The reduced clouds had been hiding the Sun’s situation and when chasing the soaring Sunlight by its rays over the valley, suddenly and for a break up second the Sunshine appeared amongst the peaks. I felt the energy of the Sunshine embracing each and every lifetime on Earth.”
The picturesque second resulted in a photograph titled “Karma Sun.”
The image “Bare Land,” on the other hand, was captured in the Icelandic Highlands. Imagining daily life on Earth prior to humans, Poli transported himself to a time billions of yrs ago as he stood to knowledge remaining exactly where two big tectonic plates satisfy.
“I have a profound admiration for the result of multi-millenary processes,” he says. “If we in comparison our unique life to these millenary processes, we fully grasp how irrelevant our unique existences are.”
“At the exact same time, I desired to encounter what a planet without daily life could glance like,” Poli provides. “From these kinds of peak — shot with a drone at 165-meter elevation — you can see no water, no vegetation, no alive creatures, but only a human route throughout the craters.”
Similarly, every single image in the collection has been born out of Poli’s adore for the normal earth and his inherent passion to emphasize the significance of preserving the ecosystem for generations to arrive, by restoring forests, leaving the fossil fuels era at the rear of, and “expanding that organic silence, once reigning undisputed more than the world.”
