It can be a fun encounter for a lot more than a thousand Santa Barbara County college students, as they learn about the heritage of hip-hop and avenue dance, A lot of of them are also finding their first live theater expertise.
The Los Angeles based dance ensemble Versa-Style is at Santa Barbara’s Granada Theater, executing a show on the origins of Hip-Hop.
“We want the kids to have a initially-hand encounter coming to the theater for the very first time. A lot of children have never been to the theater right before,” reported Ashley Environmentally friendly. She is the Schooling Applications Coordinator with UC Santa Barbara’s Arts and Lectures, which is sponsoring the function.
The thought is to give these 10 to 15 year olds a flavor of the arts that is relatable.
Richie Inda is a college student at La Patera Elementary College, in Goleta.

Versa-Design and style was launched by Jackie Lopez, who went by Skip Funk in her road dancing days.
“It was established in 2005, in Los Angeles. The dancers you noticed on stage are all from LA…learners I have achieved through center school, large school, and even school,” stated Lopez.
She’s now a dance professor at UCLA. The non-financial gain ensemble she founded is supposed to take the hip-hop, and avenue dance culture out into the community. What does she hope young children get from the experience?
“The natural beauty that hip-hop, and avenue dance has been ready to carry. Beauty, and depth, and variety,” explained Lopez.
“Our goal is often to inspire at minimum one boy or girl about the alternatives of pursuing an inventive, resourceful vocation,” mentioned Brandon Juezean. He is just one of the Versa-Fashion dancers. “We want to get into educational facilities, and academic institutions.”
The dance ensemble travels all over the region undertaking performances, but Wayzon claims they appreciate executing distinctive performances, and workshops for children.
The program is interactive, and will get the young ones up on their toes collaborating. They master some basic moves. Intermixed with the enjoyable are stories about hip hop and road dance tradition.
With the 50th anniversary of hip-hop remaining celebrated this calendar year, the general performance also hits home with some of the teachers, and mother and father listed here. Marilyn Jones is a La Colina Junior High University staff member.
“It brought me back, and I lived it…and it can be nice to see it however about,” stated Jones.
